Maria Menounos
Maria helped her mother who had stages four of brain cancer. Maria was able to recognize that she had a serious health situation. In February 2014 Menounos started experiencing troubling symptoms. In the exclusive cover report of PEOPLE Menounos discusses how she was suffering from headaches and lightheadedness on sets. My speech had become blurred and I was having difficulties comprehending the teleprompter. A MRI found that Menounos had a golf-ball-size meningioma brain tumor that was pushing on her facial nerves. Menounos had an arrangement made for surgery with her doctor Dr. Keith L. Black the neurosurgeon who is her mother's doctor and set the surgery to be performed on June 8. Menounos is now 39 years old. She says that he said, "I am 98 percent sure that it's benign but we will not know until we get into there," In the arduous surgery lasting about 7 hours, Dr. Black was able to get rid of 99.9 per cent of the cancer. The result was not cancerous. According to Dr. Black, there's a 6-7 percent chance of the tumor recurring. "But I'll take those odds anytime." Menounos has been admitted to hospital for 6 days, is back at home, and spending moment recuperating.
