Alison Wright (born in England) is an English actor. Her most famous role was Martha Hanson in the FX the spy-themed period series The Americans. She received both critical praise and nominations for the Primetime Emmy Award for this. Also, she played Bette & Joan & Hollywood in Ryan Murphy's limited series Feud. Wright was born 12 July 1976 in Sunderland. Her adoptive parents raised her there. She began dancing and acting at a young age. She studied at the prestigious Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute as well as The Barrow Group in New York City. When she was auditioning to be cast in roles, she was an waitress. While scuba diving on the ocean - a hobby of hers - she had a cardiac attack that left her a patient in a condition that was similar to one in a condition known as a coma.
